The division of Reproductive Medicine of the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology houses specialisms that focus on diagnosing and treating endocrine disorders. These include Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Premature Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) as well as other conditions hampering fertility.
Infertility may be caused by anything ranging from uterine abnormalities and scarring to endocrine (hormonal) disorders. Sometimes, the causes remain unknown. Some problems manifest themselves in the preconception phase, and others during the pregnancy, leading to recurrent pregnancy loss and miscarriage.
Irregular or absent menstrual cycles, as seen in PCOS or POI, do not only cause short term problems (e.g. anovulation and decreased fertility); if left untreated, they are associated with long term health problems, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease. We therefore also focus on long term health issues, and try to prevent them by implementing proper preventive treatment strategies.
We offer treatment modalities for sexual dysfunction due to somatic diseases such as infertility, menstrual irregularity, diabetes or cardiovascular disease. All care is provided as part of a long-lasting life course approach in which we care for women and men throughout their whole lifespan, before, during and after their reproductive period.
