What is International Patient Center the Netherlands?

IPC is the leading medical travel company in the Netherlands. At IPC we understand that it can be difficult to navigate a foreign healthcare system. Where is Erasmus MC?

Erasmus MC is located in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It has its medical campus in the center of Rotterdam only 15 minutes away from Rotterdam The Hague Airport and 40 minutes from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The main campus is very close to the Erasmus Bridge and the Euromast, two iconic landmarks of Rotterdam.

Why do I have to pay an international patient fee?

From your first inquiry, you’ll be paired with an IPC care coordinator who will serve as your single point of contact during and after your medical visit. Your representative will match you with the most appropriate services for your medical needs and individual preferences to make Erasmus MC feel as close to home as possible. Every year, we coordinate the highest quality health care for hundreds of patients from more than 80 countries, so we understand and can anticipate your needs. Your IPC representative will be there to assist you during all phases of your care. A fee is charged is for this service.

This fee can consist of the following acts of assistance:

  • medical assessment of request
  • planning of medical treatment
  • single point contact and personal care coordination (qualified nurses)
  • personal welcome at the hospital reception
  • invitation letter for visa application
  • support in travel arrangements
  • coordination of transfers
  • hotel booking
  • arrangement of on-site medical interpreter
  • accommodation of travel companion(s)
  • answering questions regarding your treatment
  • provide support within the payment process
  • secure payment to health provider.

How do I make an appointment?

What to expect when I fill in the Enquiry?

– We need to know your basic contact information.
– Your medical issue to be addressed, including medical history and records.
– Information about your referring physician, if applicable.
– The approximate dates you are available for appointments.
– And your preferred payment method (self-pay or insurance).

Does IPC assist with booking my travel?

Yes. Once your appointment at Erasmus MC has been confirmed, your IPC care coordinator will assist you with any transportation and accommodation needs related to your visit. We can recommend a number of local hotels, inns and apartments for rent.

What are the costs for receiving care?

Each request of the patient will be assessed individually. To send you a cost estimate for the requested care, we need your medical file in advance. The cost estimate will depend on the diagnosis and suggested treatment plan. Please connect with our care coordinator if you wish to receive a cost estimate.

How are the prices of treatments estimated?

Dutch hospitals are private but not for profit. All prices for medical treatment are regulated by the Dutch government, meaning they are capped to maximum prices. This creates an honest price for every patient.

How is the final invoice arranged?

The provided cost estimate is based on the information we currently have available at the time of the request and is not a guarantee of what the patient will be charged.

A final consolidated bill with actual charges for the provided care will be delivered within 140 days after your last outpatient appointment.

Please understand that in many cases there are different variables involved in the final costs, such as additional tests ordered by the physician, extra prescribed medicine, or any unusual special care or unexpected conditions or complications that may occur during your stay at Erasmus MC.

What happens if I underpay or overpay for the services?

If your deposit is more than the actual charges, we will refund you the difference. If your deposit is less than the actual charges, we will send you an invoice for the difference.
